Co-Founder and Sailing Trainer
“Both as a coach and as an instructor, I have always aspired to make my students and people around me love the sea and sailing. I have tried to convey these values to all activities and events within the Global Sailing organization. After all, exactly these have been the goals we set for ourselves as the Global Sailing family.”
Born in 1984 in the city of İstanbul, Turkey, Derin Karamanoğlu and his family gained ownership of a sailboat in 1986 and that was when he was introduced to sailing for the first time in his life and continued his boating lifestyle until the age of 9. Traveling around the world with his family, besides adopting sailing as a lifestyle, created a desire to spread this lifestyle to the people around him and especially to the youth by popularizing this lifestyle in all members of his family. Thanks to his father’s tutoring, he completed the last two years of his primary education in İstanbul and after moving to Karacasöğüt with his family, he finished his secondary education. After going to England for highschool, Derin halted his higher education and moved back to Turkey and became a teacher and trainer in the Gökova Sailing Club which was founded in 2002. All the while taking on the job of being the education director of Global Sailing Academy and Gökova Sailing Club. After graduating from the Yeditepe University Department of Translation and Interpretation, he joined both sail yachting and dinghy certification programs with the Turkey Sailing Federation and the British Royal Yachting Academy (RYA). Derin still continues to improve his skills for the one passion that never once died out. He still does wave surfing, kitesurfing, SUP and of course, sailing.
